BORN Ontario is pleased to share a new publication titled Mortality Following Childbirth in Ontario: A 20-Year Analysis of Temporal Trends and Causes outlining the number and causes of maternal* mortality associated with hospital births in Ontario over a 20-year period. As a registry, BORN’s role is to facilitate and improve care, and the first step towards prevention and better care/outcomes is improving our understanding of the issues and this study raises profile of areas of opportunity.
* We acknowledge that the term “maternal” is not fully inclusive, though it is widely used in published literature to describe pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care. When we use “maternal,” we are referring to all birthing individuals and gestational carriers, recognizing that this language does not reflect everyone’s identity.
